Getting started is simple. Begin with our Sewing for Beginners class to learn essential skills and build confidence. After that, you can join any of our beginner-friendly group workshops to expand your techniques and try new projects. If you prefer one-to-one guidance or want to focus on a specific skill or project, book a private sewing session with a tutor.

Head Instructor Jo Green has acquired a unique set of skills over a period of 14 years. Her expertise includes creative technical pattern-making, costume making, fashion design, expert in understanding concepts, fit and professional alterations. Her ability to understand concepts and how to translate them into a physical product and teach complex ideas effectively makes her an expert teacher to sharpen developing creative minds.

Of course you can work on your own project! Private lessons are available and depending on the level of support you need you may book ‘Your Personal Sewing Coach’ for a flexible single hour lesson or a 3 hour session package ‘Sewing for Beginners’.

We provide basic sewing machines for small, lightweight projects. We encourage you to consider purchasing your own machine so you can practice at home—regular practice is the best way to build sewing skills. If you already own a machine, feel free to bring it to class; we’ll show you how to set it up and help you become more confident using it.

Sewing is not a destination, it is a continued life long practice, an exploration of ideas and concepts. Everyone learns at a different pace. Most students begin creating simple projects surprisingly quickly with the right guidance. Sewing complex projects is a skill that is developed as you make progress over time. There are many facets to sewing and so much to learn!
