Sew Sigma Fashion Program
The Sew Sigma Fashion Program is a safe place for teens who are looking for a starting point of self discovery through fashion creation. This program is designed to focus on basic garment construction fundamentals and creativity. This is beginner friendly program with an introduction to using the sewing machine and lessons focused on fashion creation one project at a time.
The classes run for 2.5 hours weekly for 9 weeks. Each week we will explore different sewing techniques and design around the specific garment. Practice makes perfect so each week has a strong focus that leads to making the final garment.
In order for classes to be concise and reinforce learning students are required to begin at the start of each project and encouraged to participate in all the activities tailored to build their knowledge of the garment, e.g. top, skirt, jacket etc as each garment has its own rules and endless possibilities!
Following a structured project outline will ensure students learn and grasp the essentials. This approach will also give the students more opportunity to explore elements and implement design when customising their final garment.
Students will learn terminology, make toiles, conduct fittings and then cut and sew the final garment in their own fabric. Expert Instructor Jo Green will assist students with drafting and adapting patterns to help them bring their design to life!
Some basic supplies for tracing their patterns and making toiles are provided. Students may purchase sewing kits and extra calico on site necessary for participation and practice at home. It is very important to practice what you learn in your own time so that you are ready to move to the next lesson smoothly.
Materials for final garment are at the individuals cost.
Additional sewing kits, supplies, tools and fabrics are available for purchase on site.
